What's in a Name?
a note from the editor
Perhaps many of you, like me, are slightly miffed by having to type out "g-a-s-t-r-o-n-o-m-i-c-m-e-d-i-t-a-t-i-o-n-s"(try having it as an e-mail address). After developing cramps in our fingers, tired mouths, and answering too many inquiries about medical specialties and stomach conditions, we decided it was time for a simpler name. (Alder mentioned something about an incident with a mouthful of olives, but we thought it best not to inquire further.)
Crafting a new moniker has been an arduous process, to say the least. In the throes of a great idea and the high of feeling brilliant, we would discover said domain name was already taken. It couldn’t be too long, too short, too obscure, or too hard to spell. At one point we even considered www.wecantfinda$%#@!domain.com. However, after much deliberation, brainstorming, and strange e-mails from me at 3:00 in the morning, we have crafted a name for this site that we feel encompasses all the things we are.
In the first week of December, 2005, this site will be relaunched as “The Gilded Fork.” Since our mission here is to take cooking, eating, and gastronomic exploration to a higher level, this is the perfect name to express what we are about. Of course, patience is a virtue I do not possess, so to make it easier for all of us, effective immediately you can reach this site via www.culinarymedianetwork.com. Doesn’t that feel better?
Naturally, we could not fully abandon “Gastronomic Meditations” as a name it is too near and dear to our hearts, particularly to mine, since it was the name of the blog that begat all of this. We’re just going to put it in the tagline instead. ;)
We do hope you enjoy this new, wonderfully easy name, as we are downright giddy with the thought of letting the hand cramps heal.
A toast to the future,
