Weekly Gilded Fork Cookbook Giveaway, Oct. 16

Posted on 16 October 2009 by Chef Mark Tafoya

As promised, we’re going to be running a different contest each and every week until the end of the year, as as a prize, you can win your very own SIGNED copy of our Gilded Fork: Entertaining at Home Cookbook!

This week, we’re in Las Vegas attending Blog World Expo ‘09, the largest gathering of bloggers, podcasters, and other New Media types around, and having a great time connecting with friends both old and new. Among others we’ve had the chance to hang out with Grammar Girl, CC Chapman (one of the photo contributors to the book), Ariel Hyatt from CyberPR, Jason Van Orden, Chris Brogan, Rob Blatt, Howard Greenstein, Jim Turner, Rick Calvert (The head honcho of Blog World), Jen Kushell from YSN.com, and so many more. One of the things that we’re reminded of at these events is just how many enormously talented people are out there producing great content, and helping others perfect their own use of the media.

In particular, Christine Lu and Chris Noble are spearheading an effort this week at Blog World to beat cancer! By promoting the use of the hastag #beatcancer on twitter, they’ve managed to get a number of big companies, including eBay, PayPal, and Miller, to donate money to the effort, and in the process, they’re trying to beat a world record for most mentions of a single hashtag in one week.

So we thought we’d ask you: Who do YOU think is doing a great job in this cyberworld? Who do you admire for their great content, their commitment to a cause? Who puts out amazing shows on a regular basis that you love to consume and can’t imagine living without?

Add a comment to this post with the ONE person you admire the most, and give them some link love. And while you’re at it, be sure to pingback this post with one of your own so the person you’re giving love to knows you think they’re great. We’ll take all the comments and pick one at random on Monday October 19th at Noon EST, and that commenter will win a copy of our Gilded Fork Cookbook.

Of course, we know you’ll comment just to show appreciation for someone cool, right? But who knows, you just may win a signed cookbook!

Hmm, I think some of the smartest content on the web is being done by Marc Pelletier on Futures in Biotech. Now, I must admit that I have been a co host a couple of times with Marc, but I was pretty impressed with Marc well before that. The show is smart, and does not ever dumb the science down.

Now, if you want someone whose show I have not been on, i would have to say Tom Merritt of East Meets West, Fourcast and a little show called Buzz Out Loud on CNet. Smart, funny, and almost always right. That is how I describe Tom.

Person I admire the most is my friend Jennifer Chang with Girl’s Guide to Home Repair – she’s smart, talented and has more courage than you will ever know.

The person that I ad mire the most is my mother. She has been there for me my whole life and continues to be a big part of my life. She has helped me through so many issues that have came by and loves me unconditionally.

Thanks for the shout out in the post, it was great to see you too. I’ll give a shout out to my friend Saul Colt http://saulcolt.blogspot.com/ – the smartest man in the world. Also a sexy beast. But I’ve written about Saul before in my Inc column because he really knows how to create relationships, with customers and with friends. Both essential skills in social media. http://twitter.com/saulcolt

I’d have to go with Jaden from Steamy Kitchen, http://steamykitchen.com. I love her recipes, writing, everything.

I’ll stick w/ the food theme. Ree from Pioneer Woman has had the biggest and most influential effect from what I’ve witnessed personally. A lot of my friends around campus who had zero interest in cooking really got into it after discovering Ree’s site. She makes it look easy and the step-by-step photo/instructions helped my friends get inspired.

She’s like a suped up version of Sandra Lee but there’s actual cooking and onion chopping involved.

Like Sean, I think that Ree from Pioneer Woman: http://thepioneerwoman.com/ has a wonderful blog. Not only does she blog about food, but life on her ranch, homeschooling four kids, Ethel Merman impersonations and everything in between.

She’s an amazing blogger and always gives me the warm fuzzies when I read her blog!

The cooking related blog that I am loving the most right now it by Jane Dionor of Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms. http://makeaheadmealsforbusymoms.blogspot.com/ Her simple recipes are great!

  9. Dani Says:

I know I’m too late for the giveaway, but I’d still like to mention Jen Yu at http://www.userealbutter.com. If you follow her on twitter (userealbutter), I guarantee she’ll bring a smile to your face. She just finished participating in, and blogging about, Eat on $30 (a week) in which she provided a lot of insight into the problems of hunger and poverty. And she is an absolutely phenomenal cook and photographer.

I’m a little behind (because I just woke up from Vegas) but I admire the world I’ve seen Rayanne Langdon do with Freshbooks. She represents the brand extremely well and still manages to be her own amazing person.

Louise at http://www.momstart.com. She does lots of good giveaways and reviews. She is a woman of integrity.
